Native Plant Demonstration Garden
Imagine strolling under redwood canopies while learning about native plants, sitting on recycled redwood benches while listening to the creek gurgling past, and spotting egrets feeding along a restored riparian area, all without leaving the City of Pinole. Volunteers with the Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed are working to make this a reality with the Pinole Creek Restoration and Demonstration project at the Pinole Library.

In January 2003, the Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed held the first volunteer workday for the Pinole Creek Restoration and Demonstration project. The project consists of two main components 1) creation of a native plant demonstration garden on the upland area of Pinole Creek and 2) restoration of approximately 300 linear feet of Pinole Creek behind the Pinole Library.

The objectives of the Pinole Creek Restoration and Demonstration Project are
to:

  • Increase creek habitat and functioning for fish and wildlife
  • Increase species richness and vegetation cover
  • Serve as a demonstration site for future restoration efforts and native
  • gardens
  • Build a constituency that understands and supports creek restoration efforts
  • Provide an opportunity for public environmental education.

Get Involved! Work parties are planned for the 4th Saturday of each month, 9:00 am -1:00 pm. Contact Lisa Lacabanne, FOPCW Coordinator for details
